īut the thing is, in most field battles, sword units are a luxury and rarely a decisive factor, what counts a lot more, is units that hold the line for as long as possible against anything, which allows the rest of your army to encircle the enemy, or your cavalry to flank/back charge and thus destroy the enemy front linesīecause "Encirclement and Flanking" is the heart and ultimate goal of field tactics and what wins most battles, so obviously, the "best" infantry unit from that point of view will be the most versatile, most resilient and mobile unit, a unit that will last as long as possible against any kind of enemy unit and be cost effective because it will always serve a vital role on the battlefield. I think by "best " unit, they mean what is the most destructive unit in 1vs1 infantry fight, so they quote the units with the highest melee attack stats. I agree, no-dachis are vulnerable to cavalry, and like monks, they will drop like flies against arrows, they also lack the endurance to hold a line like yari or naginata samurais. They can also be easily destroyed by basically any unit that charges them afterwards so they wouldn't be the "overall" better unit.
